How to Configure Your EV Charger with Powerly: A Step-by-Step Guide

Setting up your EV Charger with Powerly is designed to be simple and user-friendly. Before starting the configuration process, please ensure you have met the following prerequisites:

Prerequisites

  1. OCPP Compatibility:
    • Ensure your EV charger is compatible with OCPP 1.6 or higher.
  2. Internet Connection:
    • Verify that your EV charger is connected to the internet. This can typically be done via Wi-Fi, 4G/3G or a wired Ethernet connection.
  3. Charger Manual:
    • Have the EV charger manual on hand for reference. This will provide specific instructions on how to enter server, username, and password details.
  4. Powerly App:
    • Ensure the Powerly app is installed on your mobile device and that you have an active account.

EV Charger Configuration

Configuration Steps:

  1. Open the Powerly App:
    • Launch the Powerly app on your device.
    • Navigate to the “Account” tab located at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Access Power Center:
    • From the top menu, select “Power Center
  3. Add a New EV Charger:
    • In the Power Center, tap the “+Add” button.
    • A menu will appear; select “EV Charger
  4. Enter Charger Details:
    • Name Your Charger: Type a unique Name for your EV Charger to easily identify it.
    • Identifier Number: Enter the specific Identifier Number of your EV Charger. This number is usually provided by the manufacturer.
  5. Confirm Configuration:
    • You will see “Server” which is Powerly’s OCPP server URL, along with “Username” and “Password“. It is now time to configure the EV charger itself. Insert these credentials into the EV charger using the manufacturer’s configuration method. Each manufacturer may provide different methods for configuring the charger, such as through the EV charger app, EV charger dashboard, or EV charger screen. Refer to the EV charger manual for more information.
    • Double-check all the details you have entered in the EV charger. Make sure that the server, username, and password provided by the Powerly app match the information you inserted into the EV charger.
    • In the Powerly app, tap “I Confirm EV Charger is Configured” to confirm that your EV Charger is configured correctly.
    • You may see a confirmation message in the Powerly app indicating that the charger is ready to use.
    • You will see your charger in “pending” status until the charger is connected to our network.
    • Wait for Connection: The charger may take a few minutes (up to 10 minutes) to connect, depending on the charger’s manufacturer.
    • Note: Once the EV charger is connected, it will be listed as a private charger. If you want the public to use it, you need to list it as public.

Listing Your Charger as Public

  1. Open the Powerly App:
    • Navigate to the “Account” tab.
    • Select “Power Center
  2. Select the Charger to Share:
    • At the top right of the charger you want to share, tap on the three dots.
    • From the menu, choose “List as Public“.
  3. Fill in Information and Set Price:
    • Fill in the required information and set the price for using the charger.
    • There are three pricing types available: Per kWh, where EV drivers will be charged for each kilowatt-hour (kWh) they use; Per Minute, where users will be charged for every minute the charger is active; and Per Session, where users will be charged a flat rate for each active session, regardless of the time. Additionally, limits can be set for each charger.
    • Tap “Done” to complete the process.
  4. Visibility:
    • When the charger is listed as public, all users worldwide will see the charger.
  5. QR Code for Activation:
    • To print the QR code of the listed charger:
      • Go to the Powerly app.
      • Navigate to “Account” and then “Power Center“.
      • Choose the publicly listed charger.
      • Tap on the three dots in the top right corner.
      • Select “QR Code” from the menu.
      • The QR code will be displayed. Tap “Download” to download the QR code.
      • It is recommended to print and place the QR code in a visible location near the charger so EV drivers can activate it using the QR code.
      • Note: Only public chargers have QR codes.
  6. Share Your Charger:
    • To tell everyone about your charger:
      • Go to the Powerly app.
      • Navigate to “Account” and then “Power Center“.
      • Choose the charger.
      • At the top right corner, tap on the “Share” button.
      • Share the charger through social media to inform friends and everyone about it.

Setting a Public Charger as Private

  1. Open the Powerly App:
    • Navigate to the “Account” tab.
    • Select “Power Center“.
  2. Select the Charger to Set as Private:
    • Choose the charger you want to set as private.
    • Tap on the three dots in the top right corner.
    • Select “Make Private” from the menu.
    • Note: When chargers are private, they will not be shown to the world.

Tips for a Smooth Setup

  • Stay Connected: Ensure your internet connection is stable during the configuration process.
  • Double-Check Information: Verify that all entered details, such as Identifier Numbers, are correct to avoid setup issues.
  • Follow On-Screen Prompts: The app may provide additional prompts specific to your device model. Follow these carefully.
  • Wait for Connection: The charger may take a few minutes (up to 10 minutes) to connect, depending on the charger’s manufacturer.
